It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye, than its just fun and
games with one eye! I've started on my launcher, and here is what i have so
far: My graple is a three pronged trilateral symetry graple made out of 8
gauge household copper wire, and the bottom of it, there is a pen spring that
i have soldered to it. For the launcher of the grapple i have a bic pencil.
Remeber back in grade school when you would take your bic pencil and make it
into a rocket launcher, it's the same principle. You pull off the tip of the
pencil to reveal the feeding mechinism for the lead, then you cut off the
feeding mechinism and pull out the inards of the pencil, then your left with
a hollow tube with a small hole at one end, i cut the tube to be about the
length of just the graple (no spring) then you can simply attach some string
to the grapple and pull it through the small hole. My idea of how it could
lauch is to have a fishing reel type system, this way the motor can easily
let go of the string, no problem, right? There ya have it, so have fun!!!!

Nice description, I can think of several elegant solutions to the FRED HEAD
circuit.

shaft with a number of coils around it. The first triggers, pulling the hook
in the shaft up, when the hook is at the coil, the next one triggers , etc.,
etc.

Nasa must have something about it on its site, since this is a researched
alternative for launching.
