I did that too, but I grabbed the bottom of the big transformer that
runs the horizontala nd has the thick wire to the side of the CRT!
OUCH!!! left 3 pin point 3rd degree burns accross 2 fingers! Not wise to
be careless!

As always, assemble project one step at a time and test before proceeding to
the next step.

In this case, you should have the 240ucore freeformed, ready to test but
not yet connected to the motors. When powered up from 4 series connected
1.5V batteries (6V) you should see a voltage fluctuation (0V to 6V) on your
meter between pin 10 (bottom right on the schematic) and each of the output
pins (3,5,7,9,12,14,16,18). If you get that reading the ucore is probably
working correctly. Next connect one motor between pins 3 and 7 and observe
the reciprocating motion (left, stop, right, stop). If that works connect
the second motor between pins 5 and 9 and observe the same motion but
alternating between motors (ie only one motor is running at a time). Follow
these steps and let me know where you get stuck.

Note that the 240 IC in the 240 ucore layout drawing is shown with the legs
pointing down. That is the opposite to the almost complete bicore drawing
which is shown with the pins sticking up. Also note the arrow symbol on pin
1,10 and 19 indicates a common ground connection on those three pins. And
note the four capacitors marked C1 are connected between pins 4 -17 , pins 6
- 15, pins 8 - 13 and pin 2 - 11.

See - this I think is a source of some confusion. What exactly
the "thoughts and ideas beam [was] meant to [be]" are could be (and has
been) an ongoing discussion/argument/debate. To some BEAM=Solar Power and
spare parts. To others it means more.
