13560 Mon, 17 Apr 2000 11:26:21 -0500 ...notes from the electronically challenged.... "BEAM Mailing List (E-mail)" "Scolman,Jim" Good morning All...I have finished my freeform building of the Wilf Rigter
240UCOR circuit with parts from Solarbotics and Digi-key. I'm using the
Namiki 18Cl-2507G powered gearmotors. I want to power this walker with a
solar cell(s), but for testing I powered the circuit with six, 1.5 volt
batteries. My meter showed the batteries as giving a solid 5V of power.
Question #1. With the circuit powered and both motors turning, I
tried to hold one of the motors, but the torque was
so great I could not stop, hold, the motor with my fingers. Are the motors
supposed to turn continually? What makes the legs
"oscillate"?
Question #2. My solar cell, SC3766-1, produces a solid 5V, but it
will not turn even ONE motor, connected directly to
the cell. I suspect it is a case of amperage, current, my meter does not
read amperage so I can't compare the battery 5V to the solar cell
5V. Are amps the more important figure? How many amps do I need?
I will have pictures of the circuit and the walker on my web page
http://homepage.mac.com/jscolman/robot/robot.html
soon. Thanks for the help and answers.....JWS.
