When you say 'RM-1' you're referring to tape-player motors?
I couldn't get the crazy thing to stay in. I ended up epoxying the motor
to the KTU, using the screws as spacers. It works great, but for some
reason the gear keeps breaking off of the motor shaft...

Like the idea of the KTU, but isn't hacking servos easier? If you by the
tape player ($5) and the KTU ($6-7) you end up spending up to 20% more on
the KTU gearmotor then the servo. Even if you mail-order just the motor
($2?) you save a few bucks, but don't forget how many hours you spend.
Hacking a servo takes 15 minutes, but a KTU takes around 30 minutes,
using super-glue, to a day or two for those using 24 hour epoxy. I
already shelled out the money for the KTU, and I'm going to try to get
those to work before I get servos (I'm a broke teen). Darn, xmas is too
far away....

13469 Sun, 16 Apr 2000 21:16:53 +1000 [alt-beam] IR Detector "'alt-beam@egroups.com'" Daniel Cotter Here is a circuit which has a IR reciever and detector. You can use it to
send infrared off the floor and back to the bot so it can see when a
"cliff" (edge of the desk etc.) is and then it can change direction. You
can also use it as a sensor that will detect walls and stuff so that its
like a touch sensor but your bot does not have to touch any thing.

With the circuit try changing the values of the 220 and 470 resistors
around the diodes as they will depend on what IR diodes you have. If the
output of the Invertor is switching on and off quickly when it shouldnt
just use an Resistor Capacitor circuit to only allow pulses or a certain
width (about 0.05 seconds or so) through.

Just thought someone might find it usefull,
Daniel.
