I don't think you can consider this as "storing" light, as it's taking
white light and converting it to a different kind of light (red cohesive beam).
I haven't heard of ruby-rod lasers having a hole in the middle; just a
cylinder with one flat end fully mirrored, and the other flat end partially
mirrored so the red light can escape out. Is this one you're referring to a
variation on the same theme?
The only think I can think of that comes close to the concept of "storing
light" is the glow-in-the-dark effect in the plastic of my daughter's water
vaporizer!

that's right. Yes, I know it looks like "HOCKYRINK." Yup, only
2 vowels. Pronounciation? _SMITH_".

It is believed that they were used for pain relief and to relax muscles.
These pots had the positive surrounding the negative (or vice versa) and
when rubbed on the sore area the oiled skin would bridge the gap tween
the two. Not really pain relief-- more like zap it till it's numb.
Way of topic and I should probably shut up now. Just something I read
somewhere.

one of them is a REAL 3904, or 3906 transistor, and not a look alike. I'd
recommend against buying ANY transistors from radioshack. Their IC's aren't
bad, but are expensive ($1.50 USD for a 74xx240E). I tend to also stay away
from their caps. Not because of quality, but for expense. 6 radio shack
.22uf caps run up quite large bill. If you live in the US. I suggest
buying stuff from Digi-key, and buying stuff in orders larger then 25 bucks.
You'll recive free shipping so it's a good idea to buy in bulk.
