13024 Tue, 4 Apr 2000 21:38:34 +0200 A FRED popper has come to life "Beam Mailing List" "Thomas Pilgaard" I've finished a FRED popper a couple of days ago, and thought I'd mail some
observations I've done on it.

I've build it 'round these components
* 3733 Sunceram
* 4700uF cap
* Namiki 1701's
* BC337 NPN / BC427 PNP's

As for phototropism ... well ... I'm not quite sure yet. I've only had a
short chance to test it in bright sunlight. Here it displayed various
behaviours: sometimes it would head directly towards the sun, but more often
it seems it would crawl along the light almost with a difference of a 90
degree angle than my Chiu popper would (that always heads towards the
light). I realise that this may be due to my choice of FLED's - I only had
four and chose the best match according to Ben's method.

Furthermore it seems that in lower light conditions (ie. under a 25watt
desklamp) it is less phototropic, than with a 60watt spot.

It is very intersting to watch as it is pretty unpredictable. I like it -
especially the leds flashing before each pop. I'll try to get some pics
online in near future.

And Ben - thanks for the time you've invested in the FRED popper and the
information you've provided - it's very valuable.

- Thomas
