Have you tried checking the capacitance of an element itself? I suspect
it will be in the pF range. So using them as feelers with the intention
of using the change in capacitance may not be of much help. Meanwhile,
the voltage generated may give you some abrupt switching
characteristics. Your experimentation could prove interesting. May be
you will find some mode in which to use the piezo with some circuitry to
achieve useful behavior. Keep us informed.
