Subject: [alt-beam] hpv, FRED and something else :)

hi all...

its been a long time since i last made anything heh heh..well...
i saw a few posts regarding the FRED and HPV, curious, i took a peek at
these 2 projects.. :) wow!

a few questions thou,

regarding the fred circuit, would it be possible to place photoresistors
or a similar circuit in series with the fled? i'm rusty here, but i'm
hoping that it would sort of tune the circuit a bit, thus, making the
task of finding matching FLEDs less critical..not to mention better
light seeking capabilities.:P Ben, Wilf, how's that? i've tried using
FLEDs as light sensors before.. sad to say, for my case, the bot's
actions were eratic(sp??), seeking light as and when it pleases.

as for the HPV, wow... cool idea there :)
i was looking at the sonic circuit, the one that gives aurealtropism to
a bot...

a suggestion here... get 2 systems, one to seek light, another to seek
sound. connect them both to a "deciding circuit" and the outputs of this
"deciding circuit" will connnect to the inputs of a h-bridge.

a truth table will be something like this:

Sound Light Motor
1 0 Reverse
0 1 Forward
1 1 Reverse

The "deciding circuit" will have to provide the hbridge with these
inputs. of course a simpler version would be to freeze the bot if both
light and sound sensors are activated.
Here's an ascii diagram.. hope it helps. .:P its my first time doing
ascii

just my 2 cents worth,

Yup, otherwise you'll be getting some strange imbalances. Use the 2907 for
the 3906.

With what sort of solder? Our Hydro-X is easily cleaned up with water and
an old tooth-brush. Other stuff may need some sort of alcohol based
solution, or pick up some "Flux-Off" from an electronics store.

so what i'm saying is the next step of the evolution needs to be SOLAR
POWERING these phototophic walkers...
can it be done? ( yes i know there are a few solar walkers out there)
but can this head-walker combo be solarized if the motors were efficent
enuff?

-points to ponder....

Sure it can be done. Mark T does it, and if you wanted to you could do it
yourself. Your going to need to change your idea of a solarbot first
however. If you were going to make it solarpowered, you would probabbly need
a solarpannel to charge some batteries. This wouldn't be an SE type
endevour. You could power it off solarcells and capacitors, but like you
said you need really effecient motors. REALLY effecient. That's where the
'if you dare' part starts. Because you're going to shuttle out hundreds of
dollars for those motors. And even then, there really is a limit to the
amount of energy you get from the solarcells. So, you'll still have a rather
inactive bot.
