Output is enabled (pin 19 to GND), right?

How about the direction (pin 1)?

Pin 1 = high, data goes from A side to B side (B = output).
Pin 1 = low, data goes from B side to A side (A = output).

"A" side is pins 2 through 9; "B" side is pins 18 through 11.

Those are the most likely problems.

I finally got the time to finish and post two more bots. The links on the
walker page are working now. You'll find a two motor with 1DOF head and a
modified toy. More tutorials and bots coming soon. I just got a bunch of the
PortEscap motors, type A and B, so watch out for some great solar powered
bots to come.
