Subject: [alt-beam] Exclusive club - possible answer

To Kenneth Hill - I tried emailing you this but it bounced.

Bruce said they hadn't seen your post, but I did, and I read the list
via eGROUPs. The problem may be that you are posting messsages to the
eGROUPs mailing list (which no-body reads - it is used as an archive),
and not to the _actual_ list, which in turn sends all mail to the
eGROUPs list.

Try emailing BEAM posts to the list at beam@spindle.corp.sgi.com
I think this is an old address, but I know it currently works. There is
probably a better address.
Note: If you are already emailing your messages (rather than using the
web), my theory is probably mistaken and the address might not help -
don't use this address in preference to your current one unless it's
making a difference.

12365 Wed, 22 Mar 2000 22:06:15 -0600 [alt-beam] Quadrapod kit BEAM Richard Piotter I got my Quadrapod kit today. I built it, but unfortunately, there are 4
missing nuts. They are flat surface nuts that have spikes that dig into
the plastic. they mount flush with the surface of the plastic so it
doesn't catch.

I e-mailed the place I got it and am waiting for them to send those
missing parts for the kit.

Upon inspection of the forms that the plastic parts are cut from, it
would be extremely easy to recreate the robot at a much cheaper cost. I
may infact build one or more Hexapods and Quadrapods, maybe even a heavy
duty one, scaled up for use with those realy enormous servos, though not
any time soon, since I can't afford them at $62.95 a pop!!! That'd be an
absurd $503.60 just for servos. $287.60 would still be rather absurd,
but more reasonable cost, if I chose to make a "micro" Quadrapod using
the super tiny servos! Again, too rich for my blood. $315 for my
Quadrapod as is is enough for me.

I may build a couple servoless kits that include the parts for assembly.
BYOS (Buy Your Own Servos) though! Still debating that one. If I even
try, I need to have a simple and easy means to cut the parts out easily
and reliably, with no drop in quality. Having the parts in your face
makes building them so simple!

I'm even considering doing a plexiglass verion!!!

Dunno. You asked about 1/2 an hour too late ... if I hadn't just
dismantled the test circuit to free up my breadboard, I could have
broken the two loops and made one big one.

However, I am not sure how useful a 12 Nv loop would be. I suppose you
could use one to carry out a long sequence of activities.

> Can the implex be observed when there is just one pulse circulating?

Not without a 'scope, which I don't have, or a very, very long delay.

> how do I make a walker start with two or more pulses?

That's where my version of the instant-start PNC come in. When it fires
up (for a split second), it kills pulses in all the Nv's you want, and
injects them into the one(s) you want. It's about the only time my
version has an advantage over Wilf's. Does your e-mail accept
attachments yet?

inverter chip (in quantities of course)?

I think most people can solder capacitors and resistors on. Did you use
the design with the two sockets, that lets you plug resistors and
capacitors in? If so, great!

Can you send an image of the layout over. I'm afraid to dig for my
images! in my 1822 messages (that's just the inbox!!! :)

12368 Wed, 22 Mar 2000 23:53:54 -0500 (EST) [alt-beam] speed beam@sgiblab.sgi.com Aaron Letts I finished a symet about a week ago. I am not quite
happy with it yet though. It has 4 3300uF caps and
takes too long to trigger. I'm quite new to doing this
kind of stuff, and I was wondering what I could do to
make this guy trigger faster.
Thanks,

Aaron
