here you go: It's slightly modified in that I put pin
numbers in red on the inverters.(to help somebody out
long ago..) Otherwise it's the drawing that Wilf made.
What's the matter? Don't trust *my* schematic? ;)

an IR pulse for 100ms (or less) about 10 times per second. The same
oscillator generating that pulse is used at the reciever to see if a
pulse is returned. IR won't reflect of some surfaces well, especially
in the sun light. There is also a another problem if you choose to use
a reciever module because most of them need +5V fairly constantly, were
as a photo diode is much easier to please. I found that a reciever
module was not needed because I only wanted to recieve the infrared
when the bot got about 30 or 40mm from an object.
Also the IR signal the reciever gets is often distorted and not a
straight pulse, so you must make sure you can use an Resistor-Capacitor
circuit to make sure that any decent pulse for the transmitter will be
enough to set the bot to reverse. I have a circuit for all this
somewhere and once I find it I can send you it you it if you want.
Hope some info here is helpful.
Cya,
Daniel
