I believe that the IR detector remote sensor modules at RadioShack use
photodiodes. It'll cost you $3-4 for them, and they must be torn apart,
but if you REALY want to avoid amil order, that should work. They are
Catalog Number 276-137, and if they aren't in stock, ask for their
catalog and show them what you need, and they usualy can get it with
their next restock.
I just purchased some today, cause I plan on making an IR bump sensor
(without the bumps).
I plan to use these for BEAMac and Quadrapod.
