You can buy, "indeglow' type material used in the LCD backlight fixtures
relatively cheaply. You don't even need a fancy setup, they run right of a
small battery. And some of them you can even shape to various extents.

The thing I buy is only $5 and can be found and any home depot or something
like that. there are two brands I have have found. Lime Lite and the true
Indiglo brand. They are a very thin plastic inside. It can be cut and bent,
but I dont know about forming it. I would suggest to you all that you play
with these because they are VERY cool. I might be able to get something on
the web about how to hook them up. (its not very hard, and even though it is
300v coming out of the second transformer on those flash units, the load of
the light will bring it down to useable voltage. If you have seen those old
laptop LCDs with the orangish tint, they have a very large sheet of this
stuff, but its orange, very cool. Have fun

The RPM should be between 50 and 150, I think.

It's here:
http://www3.telus.net/rfws/bwi/index.html
It's called the BEAM Web Index.
I've had a link to it on my site for a couple of months now. I'm sure there
are other pointers to it out there.

Those were geared a bit lower, and were suitable for
walkers. I have some of the ones that they have
listed, and they're good motors for wheeled bots and
heads, but not walkers... That's what I used on my
Power Smart Head that's on my web page. I've also
built a beamant with them.
Hope this helps..

11692 Sun, 12 Mar 2000 19:41:08 -0600 [alt-beam] Re: Indiglo stuff beam@sgiblab.sgi.com Richard Piotter Electroluminescent panels
I work with them often, and can get them for reasonable prices. I use
them to add backlights to TI graphing calculators.
They opperate on an average of 80-100 volts and can be purchased in
multiple colors (using filters).
You need an inverter, which is a DC to AC converter to drive the panels.
the smaller they arem,t eh less current is required. the inverters I use
are tiny and would fit on nearly any, robot. Mine uses 6 volts, but they
are avaliable in lower voltage ratings.
A friend of mine knows a bit more about it. I'll see if I can find the
link to his page, if anyone is interested.

you bet. I was just playing around and thought I would tell the list, since
you can get those flash units for free, and they run off a AA it might be
BEAMizeable.

bridges that can do this, I have a REALLY great Flat
photopopper that I made from the tutorial on my
site... it is FAST and works very well, but it has
mental problems... it buzzes sometimes, mainly when it
is balanced somewhere so it doesnt fall to its
death... it works fine for a while after i pick it up
though... i dunno, maybe it wants attention :-)

11695 Sun, 12 Mar 2000 20:31:51 -0600 [alt-beam] Re: Indiglo stuff beam@sgiblab.sgi.com Richard Piotter They require an AC power source to light. Also, an over voltage blows
them, just like a capacitor (they are remarkably similar). You'll want
to stick with your standard inverter. You may be able to make one or you
can just buy it.
I'm dead tired (up till 4 AM last night) and I havn't eaten. I'll dig
around for that address tommorow probably.
