I had a similar idea, but I'm not really turned on by solar rollers, so I
haven't tried it. I thought of a ratchet type of deal. When the motor fires,
a pin or claw would engage into a slot and propel the wheel of the roller
forward, as the motor loses power the momentum of the roller would cause the
pin or claw to retract allowing the wheel to be free to spin. In other words
the wheel is always free to turn one way, but always engages the stop the
other way. Those old time battery operated robot toys, worked the same way.
They shuffled their feet forward and back without lifting them and the one
way wheels propelled the bot forward. Anybody remember Marlow the Mustang?
He's almost for real.

See ya,

Have you checked out the Chloroplast SE on Craig Maynard's CYBUG page? I
swear by it! In fact, I had some boards made that uses a circuit based on
the Chloroplast SE. There's only 11 parts (including motors and
solarcells). It works really well and it also fires both motors from time
to time, if the light is balanced. In the late winter sun, it fires about
twice a second. I don't know what it will do in the summer, but I'm looking
forward to finding out!!

If you're interested in a board, check out the page listed below.
