I know the owner/mamager quite well. He lives just down the street from
me. Nice guy, socially. If it's not in stock, I get a sad look and a
humble apology. If it's broke, I get excuses and delays and more
apologies. Getting to know the employees is pretty difficult, since they
never last longer then a few months (hmm, wonder why).
You are quite right, however. Knowing the people, and showing that you
know them, often improves the level of service dramatically. This in
itself is an indication of problems with the business.

I do conceed the power of optomistic thinking, unfortunately for
me (as a scientist) I guess I live with the smell. *grin*(sorry I had to)
