I have found the stuff to be not too expensive at the local hardware mega
store
(Lowes, Home Depot)
yup aluminium is really nice to werk with.
You can get "pre-starter holes" for your drilling by using a common
carpenter's nail punch.
It bends really neatly, and then holds its shape (even 1/16 thick seems to
hold its shaping pretty good.
The stuff also sands pretty well with automotive sand paper (220-400), to
get those nasty construction scuffs off.
If you don't like the metallic look (and why wouldn't you?) or if you want
to "short-proof" the frame, just dip the assembly pieces in Plast-Dip for a
few secs. Nice black or red rubbery finish.
(available at the same hardware store)
