I think you should consider brazing, hard soldering or soft soldering (similar
except for temperature and filler material). Especially if you joining
thin materials of different types. (ie. I don't think you can weld copper to iron or
steel.) Do you use aluminum? I think there was an article about
metals and joining of metals for robots in one of the early issues of "Robots and
Technology" or is it "Robot Technology"?? I don't get the
magazine but maybe someone else could look it up. I would recommend a propane torch
with pizeo start like Benzomatic about $40 at Home
Depot.
