it really wouldn't be worth the trouble. it seems like a cheap way to get out
of ordering digikey or volt detectors in general, but it is way the hell to
inefficient (i can say that right?). anyway i tried making a symet with a
fled se. it was a pain, and eventually i broke down and sacrificed a volt
detector for it. much better. as apossed to charging for a minute and moving
a cm, it charges in about thirty seconds and travels almost an inch. don't
bother.

safe. i found out that they require about 90mA of current, not terrible, but
quite a bit compared to the 7mA required for the display motors i have (the
hell they make those with!! 7mA dear me!) which is downright and outright
crazy. these are a bit smaller though, i'm gonna use the ALS245 driver for
it, i'll just stack.

What about charging for a couple of seconds and moving a couple of
centimetres per
pop? Seems to me to be quite 'comparable' to your inch per 30 seconds.

You are right though - the original FLED design is pretty bad in low light
levels. I haven't got any complaints about the FRED design, though.

strongly. I've had a breadboarded FRED photovore with a 3733 solarcell and a
4700uF cap that was quite active and displayed a phototropic behaviour much
equal to a 1381SE popper.

Besides - if I recall it correctly - Ben's goal was to present a cheaper
alternative to with 1381 + photodiode configuration.

Cheers,
Thomas
