Nope, not quite! I've been able to get it to generate approximately 2g
vertical thrust at 12V (!) but with the weight of the stand and prop, it
was too much to go vertical.

Dave

I don't think they were pager motors, but they sure looked like them. These minatures bots didn't yet carry any payload, including a power source - just the motors and the frame which held the motors together.

Anyone know the URL?
I don't think Daves pager motors would work (but hey they might - I don't know) but when I first saw the bots that's the ide aI had too! Never tried it though cause at that point SB didn't have those little fans.

What's the torque of the tiny pager motors compared to the regular ones, and what's the weight difference?

I was wondering if that little fan from Solarbotics attached to a pager
motor has the ability to propell itself and the motor vertically? If so, at
what voltage? I know, that torque effect will cause the motor nacalle to
spin in the opposite direction of the propeller, but it could be attached to
something to prevent it, and only allow vertical motion. Or an even number
of motors and fans can be assembled to counteract torque effect.

Ummm. . . "Pager motor" . . . "12 V (!)" . . . How long
did you say it ran, Dave? :-)

Cheers,

Richard.
