Subject: [alt-beam] Re: rich site (and neurons)

Look ar the date that web site was last updated!!! I've had my G3 for a
month short of a YEAR!!! The page is out of date and nolonger updated.

As for how my robots are going... I've finished a couple, and started
more, and then pretty much stopped, trying to keep up with school. Now I
plan to begin again, and this time FOR school!!! I get credit for the
work!!! I also get credit for a modification I did to my ixTV
tuner/capture card!

Any word on if anything has been done with those premade single neuron
boards that we were talking about before on the list? I thought it was a
good idea. I'd easily put $50-100 into them, even with my limited
budget. Has the project been canned, transfered to another person, or
what? I was looking forward to those things, ESPECIALY for use in my
labs for school. Those would have greatly simplified things!

Money is very tight, and I can get a student loan. I'm realy considering
it right now, cause of how tight cash is. If I do get cash, and these
things are canned, I might just try to make a sheet for myself. Are
there any plans for these, or have any deals been made with any PCB
manufacturers??? I'm very curious about this, cause it's something I
could realy use!

Any word on the hextiles from Solarbotics? There was no news on the web
site's news page. I have also been sorta breezing through the list
messages lately. Dave, have you considered the single neuron PCB "chips"
or hextiles to cary them as a possible future project, after the
standard hextiles are done and in production?

As for that MAC to VCG adaptor, you'll have to try a catalog or a local
computer store. The G3 came with a VGA to MAC adaptor, but that is the
wrong type. I bought a monitor that was VGA and it came with the
adaptor. Most monitors won't. You'll have to dig around to try to find
one. Apple's sorta set on VGA or digital interfaces now. You'll
eventualy find something if you look hard enough. If I could get a video
card, I'd offer you mine, but untill I have product in hand... Not sure
if I want to give it up.

I'm not sure if I want an ATI XCLAIM VR 128 or a 3dFX or Voodoo card. I
like the ATI card cause of it's complete set of video ins and out, AND
monitor drivce capabiliy, but I don'ty have $200 and I'm worried that my
$34 ixMicro ixTV card would not work then with another tuner installed.

I'd like to get a 3dFX or Voodoo 1 or 2 video card cause my copy of
SoftWindows supports that, as well as a few of my games, And I'd like to
have my second monitor running. Unfortunately, there are several
features that I don't have, and would like, including video out.

I rewired my ixMicro ixTV capture/tuner card so it has a constant video
and audio output. There was almost not enough room for the RCA jacks! I
had less than half an inch of space on either side of the card's
mounting bracket that I could mount the RCA jacks. Now I need to
determine the signal used to change channel. Then I can build a front
mounted box to manualy change channels when the software isn't running.
Unfortunately, that's just Tuner Video out. I merely use that to watch
TV on my video display, instead of leaving my VCR on all the time to
wear out. (I have a Commodore Computer monitor for a TV, and have to use
an external tuner). I might as well use the tuner that's on all the time
anyway! :)

I suppose If you need it, I could consider it.

It's the correct address. It's just a bad time to try connecting.

Oh well!

From Bothell, eh? Hey, I'm right down the street in Kirkland!

Anyhoo, increasing the voltage source to the capacitor does not change the
maximum charging time of the capacitor. It will charge up more quickly,
but since the charge rate is proportional to the voltage source, time
won't decrease.

The time to charge up to some constant threshold voltage (like for
switching a diode), _will_ decrease, because the cap charging rate is
faster with higher source voltages. If you want to increase the voltage
source, and also maintiain the same diode switching time, then you have to
increase the capacitance.

However, you increase capacitance by combining them in parallel. Capacitance

DECREASES if you add them in series. It's the opposite of the resistor
convention.
