Not that I've noticed, no. For certain circuits and robot designs, very few
of us use PCBs. The solar engines, for example, are often done by
free-forming. Do do otherwise and create a PCB would be a bad idea. Not
because free-formed circuits are better than those built on a board, but
because for most of us the time, effort and money required to make a PCB
isn't worth the circuit.
So, to answer your question, most people do both free-forming and boarding,
depending on what the project is. Unless, of course, there is somekind of
raging debate between two extreme BEAM factions that I haven't been aware
of... 8)

Again, it depends on what project. On a larger project, building it on a PCB
would probably result in a neater project.

possibilities and limitations as do PCB's. I can think of a number of
reasons that my BEAM-ant cirquit would be better off with a PCB which is my
next project. IMHO freeforming tends to result in somewhat more compact
bots. However, when complexity arises PCB's can be a godsent.

isn't appearance a part of design?
