Don't worry about it, that is exactly what it's supposed to do. It seeks
light by doing that zig-zag motion. If it ran straight for the light, it
would be much less accurate in homing-in on a light pool....not to mention be
less efficient.

This letter is written with anybody who has been
stumped on the question; "Yeah, it's cool, but what
good is it?" and couldn't come up with anything
better then "It looks cool." I have summed up the uses
I can see for most BEAM bot types:

Heads:
1. A phototropic head to aim the solar panels on a solar
car of the futur.
2. A sound-seeking head equipped with a microphone for
anywhere sound could come from different locations.
3. An infra-red seeking head so that your VCR can get
the single coming from your remoye dead-on.
4. A heat-seeking head to lead fire-fighters towards the
hottest point in a fire.
5. A radio signal-seeking head so that your radio can find
the best angle to receive the radio signal.

Walkers:
1. A 'leg-chair' to replace a wheel-chair and add more
adaptibility to the user.
2. An off-road vehicle.

Photovores:
1. A heat-seeker to lead firefighters to the middle of the fire.
(should be able to walk, a Walker/Photovore mix?)

There are probably many more that I am missing, so please tell
me If I am.

Well, how about a photovore tutorial? Not just any photovore. How about a
bicore photovore? I don't think I've seen a bicore photovore tutorial..

Are the messages I'm sending out anoying
you yet? No? Good.

More to the point, are motors salvaged from a
tape player any good in BEAM, because www.bgmicro.com
has tape players for .99$ US (1.45$ C)?

P.S. If you can't find them, look on the last page of the catalog,
after the order form.

9879 Mon, 07 Feb 2000 21:51:02 -0500 [alt-beam] Charging Caps alt-beam David Simmons Hi All,

My son has found some 0.047F Caps, 5.5V, about 1/2" Dia by 1/4" high, on
some fried motion sensor boards he picked up for a buck at a surplus
store. His question is how long should they take to charge? Is the side
with the double strip running down the negitive side? He is using a
simple FLED Circuit, and a 60w Light bulb for testing.

Also, is a battery powered walker still a BEAM Robot, or is solor
powered the only true BEAM system to go with?

Thank You,

Dave
