Subject: [alt-beam] My first Photovore

greetings,

I got all my parts now I'm working on the Chiu Yuan Fan
little solerrover..www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/6897/photovore.html
the problem is, I have put the thing together (on proto board) about 4=
times
now and I haven't been able to get the slightest peep from the motors.

I followed the troubleshooting info at the end of the html document
but it isn't helping.

How can I test the components further? I'd like to know how I could
test as many of those components as possible. How about IR1 sensors
is the long leg supposed to go to the trim pot? I tried various=
combinations
of directions but I must be doing something wrong. I doubt the parts would
be defective. How long does it take for the solar engine to charge up under
regular room lighting? I flashed a flashlight into solar panel for 20=
seconds
and nothing happened.

Anyways as you can well imagine, I would really like to know as
much as possible about troubleshooting and testing this circuit.

Thanks for your help.

Andy

David,

I tried one of those and unfortunately it drew 200 ma stalled and 40 ma
running freely.

They now
have a motor at $2.95 that uses 1.5v at 25ma - designed for solar applications.
It's a little big but it should work.

9788 Sat, 5 Feb 2000 07:17:58 -0500 [alt-beam] Are SE supposed to..... alt-beam@egroups.com "R. Martin Keen" I just free formed my first SE (a FLED).

All it does is blink the FLED.

I think I may have melted the transistors, or the cell doesn't produce
enough power to start the motor.
I'm using a 1.5-3.0 v. R-shack motor, 2.2k res, and a calculator solar
cell.
Please help! This is very discouraging!

It can be very frustrating when your first bot doesn't work. Here are the
standard questions:

Well, what kind of motors are you using? Where'd you get your parts? Are you
sure you aren't putting in the transistors or the 1381's backwards? Are you
sure it isn't a defective part?

Don't give up.

Probably the motor. I've tried to do a few things with that dc motor from RS
but it's pretty much worthless for solar applications (unless we use the
chloroplast, hehe). The best solution is to get your hands on some pager
motors.

Another factor to consider is the solar cell. How much voltage does it
produce? How about current?
