On similar lines, modifying a pushbutton switch may be easier for
controlling the operating force. You may have seen such switches as
band-change switches on some radios. These typically have a helical
spring directly wrapped around the spindle that also acts as the mount
for the button. There is usually a circlip like piece holding the
spring in place. By removing the circlip it is easy to replace the
spring with a weaker (Customized/hand wound) spring to suit the purpose.

These switches also come in PC mount versions. Feelers could be used as
levers to gain mechanical advantage or the switches themselves can be
used as "bumpers"
