Subject: [alt-beam] Microcore Walker

content-transfer-encoding: quoted-printable

Hi
I do not understand what Neural Nets, Nervous Nets are. I've read the 'Livi=
ng Machines' paper, searched the Internet left, right and centre, and cann=
ot find very much info on walkers at all. Could anyone explain, in English,=
what they are? I know a little about walkers, and planning on building my =
first walker. Should it be Microcore, Bicore, what's the difference? Can so=
meone please post the Microcore/ Bicore schematic, with driver etc. Tutoria=
l?

Cheers
Andrew Waters

This is something I've seen done on Andrew Miller's very old
"PhotoPheeder". He used a pair of lever leaf switches (omcrons, I think),
each being only SPDT. He glued them together to make a DPDT, and soldered
on the extenstion wire to leaf switch lever.

Only problem with using the leaf switches (he said) was that they're very
fragile in any direction other than the one they're designed to bent. Any
bending up or down, and the switch portion would snap out of the hinge
points on the switch body.

Dave

Have you taken a look at Andrew Miller's tutorial?

we might as well follow them. He's designed the things and uses them, so
he must have done something right!

I know it's someone elses project, but has anything been done regarding
the single Nv tile/DIPs?

9711 Wed, 02 Feb 2000 11:45:23 -0700 [alt-beam] Solarbotics Hextile Designs beam@sgiblab.sgi.com Dave Hrynkiw Solarbotics is getting close to starting active design work on our Hextile
boards package.

We're looking for your input on whether you want "Mark Tilden" (tm) style
Hextile boards, exactly like the ones he uses, or if you would like to
request different types ot Hextiles as well.

Our initial run will be using DIP-style (regular sized) chips, on Hextiles
and perhaps some square tiles too. SMT? Well, perhaps in the future....

The final board size will most likely be an assortment of tiles on a 8x10"
sheet, partially routed out so you can snap them apart, or leave them
together. Double-sided for ease of trace routing and with solder mask and
component mask labelling for easy assembly.

Sooo, I put the question to you:
MWT - style boards only, or some custom designs (suggestions)?

Dave
