I'm convinced if this page doesen't have an audio shcematic you want, it
will be VERY hard to find

For a description of how an op-amp works, and some simple circuits, have a
look at:

http://wollongong.apana.org.au/~ben/info/opamps.html

You can use the venerable 741, or the 386 as Dave suggested, or pretty
much any op-amp you can lay your hands on. Some op-amps (like the 358??
Can't remember the number exactly) come in an 8 pin
package and have two op-amps inside them! Others like the 741 come in an
8 pin package and have only one op-amp there. You can get away with not
connecting the extra pins, although they can be used to change the
characteristics of the op amp slightly.

I got used to using the LM386 audio op-amp in the "Herbie" circuit. Very
nice, and simple too. Take a boo at it. Even radio shack carries it.
