I get out the bolt cutters myself. Just cover with a cloth and cut.The weight
will fly off.

effecive way.

I tried punching the shaft through and couldnt shift the ****ing thing.

After I used the pliars method I realised why --- the shafts had a pattern
cut/rolled into them and I suspect that the weights were put on hot and
allowed to shrink onto the roughened shaft.

A photo diode won't work for body heat. You need a Pyroelectric sensor
for that & they are not cheap - unless you salvage one from one of those
lamps/gadgets that use them.

If you are referring to the BGmicro type motors, you can get them from
Herbach and Redman. Catalog # TM98OPT3202 page 82. They are 29.95 and come
attached to a lens assembly.
