Kelly, Would you be willing to let others share this guy?? I also live
in S'toon and I am chomping at the bit for some motors. I was about to
call around looking for pager repair places myself, but since you've
done that already, I was hopeing I could be a mooch ;)Could you E-mail
me with any Info? Thnx. And do you know of any sources for the 2n3904
in town, I could find the 08 but no 04. (I'm probably just blind)

9423 Thu, 20 Jan 2000 17:18:33 -0800 [alt-beam] Consumer IC link "'beam@sgiblab.sgi.com'" Wilf Rigter Hi Kelly,

Thanks for the link on the consumer ICs. I have a small list of useful
japanese parts his link opens to door to more possibilities. Other
manufacturers like Hitachi and Fujitsu make such chips but it is difficult
to find any relevant data for consumer electronic parts on their web sites.

This BA6212 part has merit. It has a low output saturation voltage, can
level-shift, and has a strobe. Supply current (as distinct from load
current) is about 15 mA per channel when ON. It will be excellent as a
uni-directional motor driver for modified 100mA hobby servos.

What is particularly attractive about consumer ICs is that many of these
parts can be harvested for free from surplus equipment like VCRs and CD
players. Once you identify a suitable chip (bidirectional motor driver
would be nice!), check out all those chips you salvaged just in case (you
did, didn't you?). Your local TV repair shop or TV repair parts shop
(jobber) will probably have a selection of new parts. Shop around for the
best price and beware of getting ripped off.

best regards

wilf
