what is the name of those hot wheels cars that have the large capacitor in
them. and just how large is that capacitor. 1.5F?

I found this useful for looking up transistor properties

Ben,

Thank you, a very straight answer, my son grasped the concept at first
reading. He still wanted it printed out for "future reference," as with
everything else. He liked Fred, both the picture and the circuit diagram,
and asked me to print out all the info pages you have set up on your web
site.

I was wondering if we could sub 2N3906 and 2N3904 Transistors for the ones
you listed?

Thank you,
Dave and Kyle

Hi,
Thanks for the kind words!

Well, I haven't seen any 2N3906 or 3904 transistors locally, although I
have been looking around for some. They seem to be a US thing.

Be that as it may, I would think that they would work fine. The circuit
isn't all that critical, so it should work fine. Many other SE's
(including the original FLED design) use the 2N3906 and 3904 transistors
so if that works, then the FRED design should.

Breadboard the circuit first, of course, just to make sure. And remember
to change the 10K resistors to 33K. (I still have to update that
drawing!)

Let me know how you go.

Ben

Judging by your e-mail address I assume your in or near Waterloo, I don't
know how often you get into Toronto, but there is a little shop near Queen
St. and John St. (Right near the CityTv building) that always has them in
stock at a dime a pc. I'll try to remember the phone number the next time I'm
done, I believe they also ship orders direct. Plus down the road is Active
Surplus, so the cheapest place I've found to but Solar panels to date.

My son seems to have decided it is going to be the next project, now all I
need are some pager motors, when I find them I'll let you know how it works.
