OK, this is probably way too complicated, but I had to say it:
Couldn't you rig up a bend sensor somehow to detect pressure?
You know, maybe make the leg/foot semi-flexible and attach the bend
sensor to one side of it so that it bends when the leg gives a little.
Yeah, it's probably too complicated-but it might work...
That foam thing does work, I've done it myself, though not on a robot.
And the foam does tend to get compressed after a while. But I've noticed
that some foam is softer than other foam. If you can get some softer
foam, maybe it will spring back into shape better!
