In previous years, it was always in May. We were hoping by having it in
June that would help open it up some.
There is going to be another BEAM Telluride workshop in Colorado this year
the first 2 weeks of July. If you're interested in attending, you can get
full details from:

balancing act between motor efficiency, cap size and
trigger voltage. If you are using a failry inefficient
motor your best bet would be to use a 1381J with a
smallish cap. The motion you'll get will be similar to
the charge/discharge cycle of a photopopper... it
won't move very far per discharge, but will be active.
If you have a more efficient motor, go for a bigger
cap and a higher trigger voltage. My PSH uses an ESCAP
motor, a .054F cap, and a 1381N trigger. (values are
from memory.. don't have the bot with me) This type of
setup gives you a lot more to work with.. It takes a
few minutes to charge, but when the circuit is active,
it'll run the motor for about 5-8 seconds depending on
how much additional charge it picks up while sitting
'locked on'. The setup also allows a higher energy
reserve for when there isn't enough light to power it.
Mine will stay active 'locked on' in darkness for
about a half hour or so, until the charge falls below
the reset voltage.
The best thing to do would be to experiment.. I have
abunch of different 1381 values that I use for
breadboarding, to get optimal performance.. It's a bit
of a price hit I guess, but the end result will be
better.
Hope this helps,
darrell

Darrell,
what kind of cap are you using and where did you get it?
all caps larger than 4700uf that i find are either rated for too low a
voltage, or are the wrong "kind" according to Wilf and others in that they
leak their charge too quickly.
are these caps available?
Thanx!
