Subject: Really dumb question.

ok, I self taught my self electronics. I stuck strictly to the technical.
(how resistors and transistors and caps work) and know very little about the
physical and theoretical. So pardon my stupidity but...

How do you build an AC generator? I have a thought that I want to keep hush
hush for now but need to find out how AC generators are built.

I have searched the web, and the archive and all the pages on my new links
page and haven't found it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jim Cook

8199 Fri, 10 Dec 1999 18:33:01 -0500 (EST) [alt-beam] Naughty e-mail... beam@sgiblab.sgi.com jester96beam@iname.com I think it is probably some sort of bot that mailed it. It seems to me that a lot of you have also recieved the e-mail (but with your name) so I think whatever it was must have gotten a hold of the beam list addresses. The only thing I don't understand though, is that I'm the only one on the list using iname.

How about a solarengine that runs a motor to compress air in a storage tank,
and when the pressure is high enough, the valve lets go and the bot gets jet
propelled, either on the ground or thourugh the air!! A photovore would work
on the same basis, aexcept there would be 2 motors, running 2 air tanks. The
cap on the SE would have to be quite big as to run the motor long enough to
pump in anough air. The valve to release the air would be let go somehow,
not sure how yet, when the SE is finished firing.

Interesting idea. However, I don't think it would work...not with what we
have come up with so far. I just can't see a solar engine being able to run
such a system. Someone else rub this around in their mind, perhaps you can
come up with a better conclusion than mine. 8)

8202 Fri, 10 Dec 1999 19:58:28 -0500 [alt-beam] Re: BEAMjet "Dennison Bertram" It's a nice idea, but has several obstacals. First, you never get energy
from just anywhere. The compressed air is an example of an engery source,
but all that energy had to come from somewhere, the solarcell. But also,
everytime energy changes forms you lose a bunch of it, (and I do mean a
bunch) so in this senario you change solar energy into electricity, then
electricity into mechanical energy, (the motor) and then the mechanical
energy into compressing the air. So you'll end up a great deal, and your bot
won't be very energy effecient. For those reasons, It might just not be
practical. Afterall, if you compress enough energy (air) to make the bot
lift off then ground, then you could do the same thing with a well designed
mechanical system of flight. (IE a propeller or something) Since the same
amount of energy is consumed. So, it's a cool idea, but there are some
serious complications one has to consider first.

that's why his email box is full. I didn't get any info on him yet but I
found a great resource on this at
http://www.tmisnet.com/~strads/spamhunt/decoding.html#ResourceDetails
I hope this helps. Whoever sent that message is just messed up. I think it
would be better off for everyone to just block him out and forget about the
incident.
