Hi Jim,
Yeah, the shutters gave me a similar idea. They could be mechanically linked
to the head gearmotor to close the lids when the head turns to the extreme
left or right, solving the need for stops or pots. I think your idea of
opening the eyes to see is feasible and could incorporate some controlled
roaming behaviors. I have noticed that the Unicore gets into trouble
sometimes when a feeler says move this way and an eye is seeing very bright
light and says move the other way. The bot locks up momentarily until it
solves the problem, at some expense of power. If it could automatically close
a lid on the bright side it would fare better. Or close both lids whenever a
feeler is triggered, giving a longer pulse to the motors and pivoting the bot
further away from the obstacle. The eyes then open and the bot continues on.
Lots of cool applications!

See ya,
Jim

Yes I did. I think yours was much more of a technical feat though. Very
impressive. I'd love to have access to a machine shop like can produce that
level of quality.

This sounds like a good job for a meter movement to me.

What do you think?
