Subject: [alt-beam] I'm back in a confused blaze!
Greetings List,
I've been "gone" for the past four to six months and basicly dead to BEAM
during that time. I've come back [..from the dead?]...and I've skimmed the
over 700 messages I've missed and come away with nothing but confusion. Some
of you may remember me, some may not. In any case, the issue is that I'm
alive and ready to learn and build, on with the good stuff...
First thing...what on earth is this chloroplast SE thing?! Well..I've
gathered that it's a solar engine, of course. That it maintains about 5
volts...that it's just as or more inexpensive than the old 1381 photopoppers
we know and love. That it can use bigger motors...with more torque..and a
smaller price tag..That it can be used as the foundation for piggy-backing
other circuits apon it (unlike the forementioned beloved) That's all fine
and dandy but I want to see what others have done with it first. Any sites
featuring any "CSE" bots? Is there a website listing parts? Where does one
get these parts, digikey? What kind of solar power does this require? Are
there cons to this engine compared to the old 1381? blah, blah, blah.
Now that that mountain of confusion is out of the way, here comes
another! "Alt-BEAM"? What's this? I remembered it from before I "died" but I
also remember that I got messages from an older list that did not have
"[alt-beam]" in the subject line...I no longer receive any from there...does
anyone else? I don't know enough about this to ask any more questions but if
there is anything else you think I should know, please fill me in.
It's great to be back, BEAMers!
