Just back from trip - lots to do, so a just a quick msg:

Buzzing indicates a problem with the latching of the 3904/6 portion of the
circuit. If you're SURE the components are in correctly, and the resistor
is soldered in between the base of the 3906 and collector of the 3904, swap
in a new 3904. Failing that, a 3906.

This assumes that the resistor is a 2.2k. I've also found dropping to a 1k
helps.

Regards (back to a TON 'o' email...)

In theory and low current applications, yes. In heavier power situations,
you can get something called "thermal runaway", which means that one
transistor (due to manufacturing tolerances) will start drawing more and
then go "POP", and dump more power to the rest, making the next go "POP",
and so on down the line. This isn't a problem for FETs apparently.
(Speaking from a course I took on transistors)

Nothing more serious then the WCRG/BEAM 2000 games scheduled for July 9,10,
and 11 this summer! Full details as soon as we have them ironed out...

Dave

8003 Thu, 25 Nov 1999 13:24:42 +0000 [alt-beam] Other sources of power. "Beam List (E-mail)" Ken Warren In the UK there was a motion powered metal detector shown on 'Tomorrow's
World'. The power came from a pendulum geared to a motor. The swing of
the pendulum was limited to keep the gears in contact.
This was passed onto a rectifier circuit and then onto what I would
imagine would be something like a basic solar engine circuit. Perhaps
this could find some use (unlike the metal detector which still needed
tweaking a bit).

out of town just to get plexiglass!!! I'm considering using a combo of
transparent material and the yellow sheets from Lynxmotion. I've worked
with Plexiglass and it is a little af a pain to mess with. If I can find
some, I'll have to try this Lexan material. Thank you!

Of course, with the new saw, I might try to go with a few metal pieces,
if I can get the metal and the blades for it!
