Hello all!
I've discussed this concept with the reigning two motor BEAMbot champ,
Justin Johnson (a.k.a. BotDoc) and I think that you all should be in on it.
The mounting-the-head-to-the-body paradigm needs to be busted up! All the
head needs to do is to trim a pot attached to the robot body. Make a
regular Positive Phototropic body (i.e. JJ's Hemicore), where you would
attach the LDRs, put your pot with a small gear attached to the shaft. The
LDRs are working like a pot anyway, so use the bulk of the circuit 'as-is'.
Attach the PSH to the body, with a large gear attached to the PSH. When the
rider turns, the horse will follow. As the horse turns, the head
compensates, eventually aiming the robot at the light source.
We've been trying to solve this 'horse and rider' problem using only the E
in BEAM. Let's not forget that the M is there also!
Just a bit of cannon fodder to take us into the holiday!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and try not to become a statistic.
