Don't count on that. They say experience helps you recognize a mistake
- when you do it again :-)

(like the ones used for overhead projection) can do the job.

6854 Mon, 18 Oct 1999 12:54:44 EDT [alt-beam] James Watt's sculpture, jewelry, and bots. beam@sgiblab.sgi.com JVernonM@aol.com Hi all,
I've tried to e-mail James a couple of times but keep getting them kicked
back with an error message. I decided to post the note here so he can get it.
Besides, everyone needs to take a look at his work. I think it has great
potential for robotic aesthetics and mechanics. Here's my note to James:

Hi James,
I was just surfing your site again and am really impressed with your
sculpture and jewelry designs. Truly amazing stuff! I tried to e-mail you
before, but I think it got gobbled up by the Internet trolls. I can
definitely see what you meant by incorporating your jewelry techniques into
your bots. The pinkie ring and hand sculpture gave me dozens of ideas for
aesthetic approaches to leg designs. I can't wait to see more of your stuff.
Do you sell your jewelry by the way? I think something as unique as your
designs would sell quite well. Keep up the great work!
>snip<
Go by and check it out. You will get loads of ideas.

Interesting stuff. Thanks James.

See ya,

hmm. odd that. It's usually quite reliable. Try :

Thanks for that :-)

Yeh - the last robot I built was just thrown together from 'bits' (not
that there's anything wrong with such an approach it's a great way to
build things) but when I get some nice motors and a little more
comfortable with the electronics I'm going to attempt something a little
more refined.

> I can't wait to see more of your stuff.

I did sell the stuff in shops and galleries but the more elaborate stuff
hasn't sold and I got really fed up with churning out multiples of the
cheaper stuff. I intend to get back into it and see if I can sell on the
net.

I am working on another walker but I can't get the circuit to work and
that's stopped me and my walker dead in our tracks :-(

I just built "the almost complete walker" schematic from the beam-online
web site and after checking it repeatedly, scraping it and rebuilding it
again I still can't get the sucker to do anything.

When I power it up I SOMETIMES get a momentary pulse of activity from
where the top motor connects but other than that the thing does nothing.

Anyone got any ideas about what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do to
diagnose the fault?

I'm using a sn74ls240n and I didn't have exact matches for some of the
resistors but I thought these would be close enough:
1.5m instead of 1.6m
2.7m instead of 2.5m

heeeelp!
