No doubt about it : the 74xx240 (xx=HC/HCT/AC/ACT) is ideal for bicores as
you say up to 4 bicores on one chip or 2 bicores with drivers on one chip or
1 bicore + reverser + drivers on one chip. Very versatile! But it is good to
kno that you could make a bicore with a HC14 if you had to.

BTW You will find that the 74HC/HCT240 is not a Schmitt Driver but "some"
older LS versions did have a small amount of hysteresis so were in effect
Schmitt drivers.
