I think it's not exactly a theremin.
If he has some ready source of static charge,
rubbed silk, rubber, glass, cats sort of thing,
Richard can verify this.
For his device, static charge should be important.

A Theramin is more interested in the capacitance of you to the antenna,
but not very interested in how statically charged that capacitance may
be, just its resonance in a tuned circuit.

I eagerly await further tests.
Both are interesting things for a robot to detect.
