Subject: [alt-beam] Maxxim chip doubler...

Morning all,

I've been loosely following the thread about the voltage doubler. I have a=
3VDC to 5VDC converter that works pretty god. It's made by Maxxim. 8DIP,=
and inductor, and a small cap is all it takes. I'll have to dig up the ci=
rcuit when I get home from work, but I'll post it if anyone cares to know a=
bout it. It seems like a smaller alternative to the other charge pumnps th=
at I've seen. They also make a TTL to RS232 converter that charge pumps 10=
VDC. It may take some tinkering, but it could be something BEAMish, if use=
d in an unusual way. I'll find that one when I get home, too.

Richard

Wilf Rigter There are numerous special purpose chargepump and buck/boost converter =
chips
form Maxim and others. The challenge is to make a chargepump or =
converter
using a spare 240 inverter from bicore application or similar. In other
words, if it is conceptually simple (not a black box) and practically =
comes
for free. That's what makes it "beamish" and imho the same principle =
applies
in using one spare output of a PIC controller as a charge pump to =
generate
-5V ie for RS232, which may be a new idea (at least one which I have =
not
seen before).
