If its an HCT, you really need to keep the voltage near 5 volts, then they work
great. If your application is battery powered, HCT's are great, they are often
easier to find than the HC's are. (Radio Shack has HCT240's in stock off the
shelf)

If you have a solar application, disable the HCT 240's while the voltage is low
and enable the inverters only when you have power to use them.

Just gotta have them run at low voltage? The you really need the HC parts.
