I found a source for small efficient, and they are only $3 each. If you can't read the text on the image, the specs are:
1.5 - 6V DC
.46" diameter
1.25" long
4000RPM @ 1.5V, 27mA
8000RPM @ 3V, 31mA
$3 each
Looks like a deal to me.

Oh, you thought I was done? Hehe. I found them in the All Electronics catologue (http://www.allcorp.com)
along with a bunch of other robotic goodies like gears, motors, chains, wheels...etc. etc.
Now I'm done.
