To the all newbies out there in BEAMland,
k. I just finished going through the complete newbie stage, and I can tell you
unequivocally to avoid Radio Shack. I started the same way: found I simple
solar engine on the net, walked over to radio stack, and picked up the solar
cell, transistors, caps, and resistors I needed. Get home, and within 5 mins
the solar cell cracks in two. I waited for one to come in from Solarbotics, and
still spend a month trying to get my SE to work with the crap transistors they
sold me.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR: Order from digikey or Jameco and Solarbotics from
the *beginning*. If don't have a credit card, you should at least be able to
send them a money order. It'll take longer, and seem more expensive than RS,
but, it the long run, you'll save time, money, and, most importantly, headaches.
Wondering Aimlessly,
James Anderson
