Subject: [alt-beam] Patent US 3,783,550

Check out patent US3783550. I found it at www.patents.ibm.com
It is called Novelty Electric Motor. I think it has beam applications.
The patent has text, schematics, and pictures.
A friend of mine at work has a top that runs for days at a time.
We checked out the patent and it is very simple.
The top is spinning magnet. It will spin as long as the battery lasts.
Under the plastic base is a coil, one transistor, and a 9 volt battery.
The spinning magnet creates a moving magnetic field.
This induces a current in the coil that triggers the transistor.
When the transistor is on the battery current flows through the coil.
The magnetic field generated by the coil gives the spinning top a kick.
The top keeps spinning and does not slow down.
I am thinking of a solar powered version.
It is fun to watch.
Thought you might be interested.
