i've designed anew kind of hextile, its surface mout but it doesn't
use SMT's. It has a + and - power rail on the edge, and big, but
seperated pads for the 74HC14 that could be used to add caps,
resistors, LEDS. It also has seperate rails for IC power. To make it
even more dynamic it has spare pads placed everywhere. The best thing
is that this design would work for almost any microcore imaginable.
I'm also developing a 20 pin version (read bicore and motor driver)
