Hello Brit,

Especially color-televisions and monitors are sensitive to magnetic fields
(black and white screens usually return to there undistorted state after
you get the magnet away). Be carefull because the distortion can be
definite as far as I know (there are other ways to test if a piece of
material creates a static magenetic field). As you could read in previous
messages the monitor is likely to become oke again after some time (might
be weeks was to be read in some message), but I do not think it will if the
distortion is large. What can be done about it .... nothing I think, at
least nothing with the stuff you have at home.
