Subject: [alt-beam] Biomech Tech Releases

Ever thought that the reason I hold stuff close is that it's just not
ready yet? As a scientist, consistency and completeness are the primo
watchwords and unless you can publish it in a manner that can be
verified by others, the technology might as well be witchcraft. The
Beamant Unicore design has just been released on the net and that
saddens me because I know it'll just raise more questions and
frustrations than it's worth. I don't doubt that many on the list will
immediately see its potential, but why and how that potential can be
best realized is something even the Elite don't parse completely. The
kits and plans we've put out are that small subset stable enough for
people can get results quickly and effectively. The Unicore, I'm
warning you right now, is not for wimps, so don't blame me, email me,
or scold me just because your superbeamant won't even move let alone
race. The papers on it won't be out for months yet.

As for more publications, I try, but as I spend all my time
firefighting just to stay afloat, they will remain few and far
between. The best I can do are the articles and TV which at least show
you guys what is possible with the technology. It's the sort of thing
that motivated me when I was young. I still believe it has the
necessary impact.

As many of the Elite can attest, it is my long term goal to establish a
center where all BEAMers of promise can build bots to gambol in the
noonday sun, but that's a ways off yet. In the meantime, I'm really
pleased with what I'm seeing the list evolve into. People like Richard
and Wolter and Wilf (amongst others) are a treat because at least
they're pushing the definitions and circuits down paths not otherwise
taken. Biomech tech is still a research science after all, and the
more variations possible, the better the silicon to performance ratio
possible, and the better the bots that result.

In the meantime, I'll continue to build bots on a deadline, trusting
Maalox as my chief sorce of calcium, and longing for the days when this
was a cool hobby instead of a cutthroat acedemic exercise.

Later.

markt.
