For general edification, a readily available source of gearmotors
(suitable for walkers) are ordinary servos. Used or surplus they can be
quite reasonably priced - (less than 17$ USD, that's for sure!)

I don't have a copy of an email I sent to the list describing
what I did, unfortunately (it was a very long time ago) But I measured
the current used by the motor - not bad at all on the one I had.
I haven't used this method since scissorbot because I bought a
bunch of BG Micro lens motors when they were last available and haven't
been wanting for gearmotors since. :) I think it is a good idea, though.
The idea is you open the servo, pull out the motor, discard the
electronics, then cut away all the excess plastic so you only have the
'gearbox' left. Glue the motor in place. You're left with this:
