THIS I heartily agree with. How many other roboticists can claim to know as
much about the chief researcher's bots as we can? Ie; Rod Brooks. He _does_
have papers about the old Ghengis and Attila robots, but are there as many
schematics and circuit flowcharts as Mark has so generously let out over
the years?

So what if we're repeating some of the work he's done? At least we
eventually find out about it, unlike some of the guys I've seen build
Ghengis clones and never know how close to Brooks' it is. And if they've
even surpassed Ghengis, they'll never know.

My point is Tilden is by far the most accessible "Professional" roboticist
I've ever heard of, and the fact that we only rarely hear from him on the
list is faaar more than what a lot of other roboticists get from the ones
they model their work after.

Perhaps I shouldn't be speaking out on this topic, as I see Mark on a
semi-regular basis. But at least I can impart some of his knowledge to the
rest of you when I see a topic I think I know enough of to make it useful.
Ian should be able to help out a bit more in this style after his work term
at Mark's lab. (IAN: Remember what they did to the Chinese spy - better get
appropriate clearances before revealing too much! ;>

Regards,
Dave

2 vowels. Pronounciation? _SMITH_".
