What more could you ask for? The department of energy runs a
program for high school graduates/ college undergraduates called Energy
Research Undergraduate Laboratory Fellowship (ERULF) which pays $350 a
week plus free housing and transportation from one's home to the
Laboratory installation. However, the one that Ian is in is the high
school version (which obviously pays a little less money). If people so
desired, one could ask (if said person was an undergraduate) Mark Tilden
if he could work in Mark Tilden's laboratory. Mr. (Dr.?) Tilden pays no
money out of his pocket, so his only responsibility is to provide
supervision. The deadline for this summer has already passed, but next
year is not that far away. (Hint: it especially helps if a lab
investigator already has a student in mind before the applications are
made available to the different laboratory installations.) The DOE
website has stuff about the program under education (a little further
searching is required, but it is there I promise. If not write to me and
I will get more information on it.)
